Frontenac Gris is a bud sport of Frontenac, identical in most respects but lacking dark skin color. Frontenac Gris is usually cold pressed to make a white wine that can present aromas of peach and apricot with hints of citrus and tropical fruit.
Frontenac Blanc is a white-fruited mutation of Frontenac. The variety is relatively new, early wine evaluation suggests it will produce wines distinctly different from Frontenac Gris.
DeChaunac is a productive, vigorous variety with large, loose clusters resistant to bunch rots. Cluster thinning is usually required to produce quality wines as overcropped vines are known to produce relatively low-quality wines.
Grown primarily in the cooler regions of the US with very early ripening and good winter hardiness, Aurore is a white to pink variety that is vigorous and ripens about a month before Concord. Aurore is often used as a blending agent with a variety such as Seyval or as a base for sparkling wines.
Alpenglow produces light red berries, only turning color when exposed to sunlight. This Swenson selection makes a light, neutral wine with very low acid and sugar. Suitable as a blending component for varieties with high acid.
Schuyler is extremely productive, with large clusters of soft, juicy black berries largely lacking Labrusca flavors. Used as a table grape and for the production of a neutral light red wine.
New York Muscat produces reddish-black fruit with fine muscat flavor. Used for sweet muscat wines and as a dosage in champagne, its largest drawback is lack of winter hardiness.
